AI and Intellectual Property cheatsheet product image

What it is

A practical reference for AI policy and procurement decisions, mapping the legal landscape on both sides of an AI system. The input side covers training data rights under the EU AI Act, the DSM Directive’s text and data mining provisions, and GDPR overlap. The output side covers human authorship requirements under EU copyright law, the Czech DALL-E ruling as the leading EU-level reference, and the UK’s different framework under CDPA s.9(3).

For DPOs, legal counsel, compliance leads, and AI policy owners who need a clear orientation across input and output IP issues without reading the full directives.

How it works

Use the cheatsheet as a quick orientation when reviewing AI policies, vendor terms, or procurement decisions. Work through the five governance questions on the second half of the page with your legal and policy team. Anything you cannot answer confidently is a gap to address in your AI policy or vendor due diligence.
  1. Read both sides of the cheatsheet: input rules and output rules
  2. Run the five governance questions against your current AI policy
  3. Review vendor terms of service for IP allocation clauses
  4. Document any gaps and assign owners for follow-up
